A tree by the riverside

Blessed is the man who delights in the law of the Lord. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season (Psalms 1:1-3)

In our earlier discourse we affirmed that the abundant life in the Lord Jesus Christ is a blessed life; one which is likened to a tree planted by the riverside. Such a tree has a constant source of water and nourishment, and has nothing to worry about even in dry season. What more can be said of the tree by the riverside?

It will always be gloriously green; the splendour, beauty and goodness of the almighty God avail for all who partake of his abundant life. Dryness & ashes (spiritual and physical) are turned into joy and honour.

It will produce plenty of fruits; God makes his blessed children fruitful and progressive. Like he did for Jabez (1 Chron 4:9-10), he enlarges the coast of those who trust and follow him. Lifting up, advancement and forward march are included in the abundant life package.

Regular trimming (correction & direction) by God; this is part of the demonstration of God’s love, so that his blessed children will not stray from the path of life and holiness

(Heb 12:6-7).

It must be borne in mind that obedience and continuous contact with the Vine (ultimate source) are requirements for enjoying God’s abundant life.

May the Lord cause the rivers of Living Water to flow over all the individual members and church families in Jesus name.
