Favour with kings

Do you see a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not

stand before mean men (Proverbs 22:29).

To be favoured means to have approval, support, or liking from someone; which often leads

to receiving acts of kindness beyond what is due or usual. It has been said that one day of

favour (with God) is worth more than one year of labour. In Luke 2:52, Jesus is recorded to

have grown in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. This shows that favour

with God, and with man are important for a person to excel in life. It is most often the case

that God’s favour is translated or given effect through favour with man – for God uses human beings to work out His divine plans.

Clearly, favour from the right quarters is desirable and this month we shall be focusing on

favour with kings. But what then does it take to have such favour? Our lead text points to

diligence as one of the requirements. Hard work, responsibility and commitment to

assignments are virtues that can endear a person to kings and others in position of rightful

authority. The converse is also true that kings and employers do not like lazy and indolent

people. Additionally, the King of kings, the Lord God Almighty detests the proud but gives

grace to the humble (James 4:6). We will explore these issues throughout the month and

pray that we will be positioned in the places where favour will locate and propel us to great

heights.
